Clinical Teaching.
In my program at UNT, my student teaching was a year long.
The first semester I was able to spend 2 days a week at Hawk getting to know the students and slowly being immersed into student teaching and everything that the teaching profession entails, while the other 2 days a week I took methods classes at UNT learning how to teach students and create hands-on and inquiry based lessons. During the second semester, I was at Hawk every single day of the week and student teaching full time. Hawk Elementary School, Corinth, Texas
Student Teacher, 3rd grade Math and Science Class I had the opportunity to student teach in a 3rd grade math and science class, and it was so awesome! Almost everyday, the students had opportunities to engage in STEM activities. I was able to plan and implement lessons, provide tutorials, and give students opportunities to experience hands-on learning, all with the help of my amazing mentor teacher, Tracy Prickett. I was also able to refine my behavior management skills. |

Student Teacher, 2nd and 3rd grade Inclusion I learned so much in my inclusion rotation. Inclusion is where I would go into a classroom and support students whom have learning disabilities, other health impairments, or really any disability that is in a general education classroom. When I was in the classroom, I would support students during lessons and workshop time to ensure that they were successful. I also learned how to implement pre-teaching and re-teaching during interventions with the help of my mentor teacher, Jeanne Wylie. This rotation was a learning curve versus what the classroom environment looked like. Daily, we would go into 8 different 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms to support our students. |

YoungLives, Lamar County, Texas
Volunteer I am a volunteer childcare worker with our local YoungLives ministry in Lamar County. YoungLives is our teen mom ministry, where we provide childcare and meals at club and campaigners, diapers monthly, and mentors to walk through life with teens mamas. I currently help coordinate our childcare for our club and campaigners nights. And help run and make sure everything runs smoothly on those nights. This summer, I went to camp with YoungLives as a childcare worker, and will definitely be returning! |
Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, Harlingen, Texas
Volunteer I was a Girl Scout for 12 years, and had some amazing opportunities to be able to volunteer at summer camps since graduating from high school. At summer day camp, I would work with another volunteer to create activities that went towards a specific badge. One summer camp was all about 100 years of Girl Scouts, so everything that was planned were activities that girls would have done when Girl Scouts first began. We sewed our own dolls, made our own butter, made ornaments, and many other activities that girls did over 100 years ago! |
Christian Fellowship Church, Harlingen, Texas
Volunteer I have had the opportunity to be a volunteer in CFC Kids ministries since I was in 5th grade. I have been able to volunteer for a spectrum of areas. From creating and implementing lessons for Pre-K to 5th graders to creating solid relationships with parents and their children. In my time with Kingdom Kids and eXtreme Kids, I have been able to teach lessons, begin learning about behavior management, and have helped run the administrative side of Sunday mornings and Vacation Bible Schools. The administrative side includes paper work, the time management of Sunday and/or VBS, creating and maintaining parent relationships, and transitioning kids from the nursery to the children's church. |
